WIAW – Race Day

This is my very first WIAW post! Hopefully many more to come. I got the idea somewhere in the blogosphere, but got the real low down on WIAW was all about from Jenn at Peas and Crayons.

Spooky Snacks and Healthy Halloween Treats

I had quite the variety of photos on my phone of things I have eaten so far this week, the most complete day being Sunday, which was the day of my 10k race. I’m still on a bit of a high from running that race on Sunday, so I am going to keep talking about it.

I started Sunday morning with my usual pre-run breakfast. Even though my race wasn’t for another 2.5 hours I wanted to start fueling early! I had an apple cinnamon rice cake, which I think these things are disgusting, but they seem to be the only thing that I can eat pre-run that doesn’t mess with me much. I added to peanut butter and chia seeds to help get it down a little easier. I usually don’t do PB before a long run because again it messes with me, but I had time to digest that morning. I also had some coconut water, which seems to keep me from cramping, and a cup o’ joe for a little jolt to get me going.

I got to the stadium where Race for the Cure was being held to volunteer 2.5 hrs before race time, so of course I got hungry again about and hour before.  I had a shot of carrot juice from the Keva Juice vendor then I grabbed a banana and another cup of coffee, to not only give me some energy, but to warm me up. I was freezing! I had a hard time taking off my big sweater and down vest to head over to the finish line!

{insert photo I did not take here of banana}

Post race I grabbed another banana and lots of water! Still no photo’s…this will have to do….

Post race at home I mixed up a berry protein smoothie, no photo…I am not good at taking photos I see for WIAW posts! I’ll work on that!

I wasn’t really hungry until my mom and I were shopping at Target. Then my body screamed “I just ran a race, feed me NOW!” I usually browse around for hours in Target, but I was on a mission to get what we needed and get out because I was starving all the sudden!

This as we all know leads to impulsive decisions to eat the first thing you see. Which is this case was Sonic, one of my favorite places in the world. I haven’t had Sonic, or any other kind of fast food in months! I indulged in a delicious cheeseburger and a Diet Dr. Pepper…mmmm…it was delicious!

After this we took a trip to Costco where I picked up not only giant bags of greens for the week, but also a bag of this popcorn. Which I snacked on post nap. This stuff is dangerous  I have found myself having a little after dinner each night with my tea. It’s so good though, especially for us sweet & salty lovers!

For dinner I whipped up some of my favorite green chile chicken enchilada casserole, and some calabacitas. I’m not much of a leftovers gal, but these creamy, cheesy, spicy enchiladas are always better the next day, and the next day, and maybe even the day after that…I realize this may not be the most appetizing picture, but trust me they are delicious!

After all this good, a post race high, and 2 delightful days of rest, I got back in the gym morning! I am coming to terms with the fact that I have to run on the treadmill more since it so dark before and after work. I did an easy 3.07 miles, at 1.0 incline, in 35:40 (included 5 minute walking warm up).

Do you have a favorite post race meal?

    Congratulations on running the 10k girl! Aren’t runners high the greatest?? Mmm sonic, I haven’t had their food in the longest time either. I used to only go there for their slushed ice! haha
